A Child For All

Lisa is Chair of the Board of A Child for All – www.acfacorp.org.  Lisa and another Board member, Aissata Thaim, traveled to Annapolis for a fundraiser sponsored by the Annapolis Rotaract which is a Rotary Club service partner for young people ages 18-35.  (See photo).  During the event, Lisa and Aissata discussed the mission of A Child for All which is to provide Mali’s vulnerable children a safe and loving environment which fosters their health, learning, happiness and success.  The twelve children who have been with ACFA almost ten (10) years are thriving.  They are now sheltering in place, washing their hands, and even sewing facemasks!  Lisa is very excited that A Child for All is about to take in another seven (7) children, ages 3-5 years old, who are currently living on the streets.

The Axelrod Firm Responds to Help the Community

To all our clients, colleagues, and friends,

During this difficult time around the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we hope that you and your loved ones are staying well.  Our team is fortunately healthy and taking all necessary precautions including working remotely.  We have been seamlessly doing so, continuing to serve our clients’ needs, including helping to answer a myriad of COVID -19-related employment questions. Thank you for your continuing trust in us.

The Axelrod Firm has always been engaged in philanthropy, supporting the community. Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by the pandemic and we are responding, increasing our support in 3 ways:

1. You may recall seeing images of Ms. Axelrod reading, with her daughter, Chloe, to the kindergarten scholars at the James G. Blaine School. Click here to read more information about that and to see the photos.  Ms. Axelrod reached out to their wonderful teacher, Maureen Brower (pictured), and sent the students of each parent who provided their address (virtually every child), the materials she thought would most benefit them educationally at this time. She recommended kindergarten workbooks and coloring books and asked their parents whether they would give us their home addresses so we could send them to them. Our amazing Office Manager, Kelly Walker, ordered the scholars of those who agreed the fabulous coloring books and crayons you see. Maureen surprised us by asking the scholars’ parents whether they would take photos we could share, thanking us (see her below email to us), and those who did are in the below *gorgeous* thank you card. Thank you, Kelly and Maureen!

2. We started a series on LinkedIn dedicated to leadership in the pandemic.  Ms. Axelrod’s posts include specific advice provided by doctors on how to stay safe beyond social distancing, hand washing, and wearing a mask in public, like what to do if someone in your home falls ill with the disease, how to handle the mail, and how to handle groceries.  Her posts also urge organizations to move equity, equality, diversity, and inclusion to the forefront, explain why they should do so, discuss the economic benefits doing so, and cover how companies, and each of you, can become diversity champions.  Posts like them have resulted in her having over 2,400 LinkedIn followers (in addition to her contacts).  Join her followers and stay informed.

3.  Firm Partner Lisa Savitt informed us about the Kinsa QuickCare Smart Thermometer.  The Firm then preordered them for all our employees so we will be able to not only check our temperatures, but contribute to the information Kinsa aggregates to keep medical professionals and all of us up to date on temperature levels across the country, a key indicator (when measured against past year’s data) on the spread of the virus.

The Axelrod Firm at the NAMWOLF Annual Meeting and at the NAMWOLF Driving Diversity & Leadership Conference

At The NAMWOLF Annual Meeting

At the NAMWOLF Annual Meeting in September, The Axelrod Firm collected 68 signed book plates, to be inserted into coloring books we purchased to send to Colores United in Deming, New Mexico for #immigrants separated from family members at the border.

We asked the attorneys who visited our booth to write a short note with their first names and the cities where they’re from so the children who received the books would see that lawyers around the country care for them!

It’s part of our “Somos Todos Familia” (We are all family) campaign.

Lisa Savitt spoke on a panel at the NAMWOLF Annual Meeting in September entitled,  “Silicon Beach Jeopardy: 6 Essential Areas to Consider When Managing Venture Capital or M&A Transactions in Technology and Other Industries.” Lisa discussed key items to incorporate into a contract such as an indemnification provision. She also discussed other contractual clauses necessary to include in deal documents to protect companies in case a deal goes wrong. Lisa is Co-Chair of the NAMWOLF International Law Practice Area Committee.
